Energy Exchange (62)

Dear Energy Exchanger,

It’s been another big month for Indigo Power, with strong momentum across our projects. We celebrated another completed community battery: The Wodonga 'Big' Community Battery, our largest community battery project yet. That's three launches in the space of a few weeks, each one met with an incredible response from customers, supporters and local residents.

These events have been a powerful reminder of the role community energy can play, not just in supporting the grid, but in bringing people together around a shared vision for the future. The enthusiasm and engagement from each community has been truly energising for me and the Indigo Power team.

In this edition of the Local Energy Exchange, our Managing Director, Ben McGowan, takes a closer look at how community batteries actually perform in practice. Drawing on operational insights and real-world data from our two new community batteries in Wodonga, Ben explores the impact these assets are having on local renewable energy sharing.

We also reflect on our recent battery launches and what we’re learning as these projects roll out. The strong response from the community has been encouraging, and we’re excited about what’s ahead.

It’s an exciting time for Indigo Power, and we’re grateful for the continued support of our customers and community. If you haven’t yet signed up to Indigo Power’s new electricity offer, we invite you to join us and be part of a community-owned energy future.

As always, we’d love to hear from you, so please get in touch with any questions or feedback.

Happy reading!

Fran Quintanilla | Marketing Manager

On behalf of the Indigo Power Team

What Are community batteries really delivering?

What actually happens when community batteries start operating at scale?

How much difference do they really make for local energy sharing?

Ben McGowan explores these questions using early operating data from our Wodonga community batteries. The blog looks at how the batteries are performing in real-world conditions, what they’re doing for local energy sharing, and what this means as Indigo Power’s fleet continues to grow.

It also includes an interactive graph (tell us what you think) where you can zoom into individual days, turn different lines on and off, and see for yourself how the batteries change the shape of local energy sharing.

Read Ben’s blog and explore the data behind community energy in action.

Wodonga’s Big Community Battery is powering local energy.

Two weeks on from launch, our Wodonga “Big Community Battery” is already demonstrating what’s possible when community, government and business come together. Located at the Cricket Albury Wodonga Indoor Stadium, this project combines solar and battery storage to capture and share locally generated energy, supporting the grid, strengthening energy resilience, and keeping benefits within the region.

It’s also delivering real outcomes for the local sporting community, helping reduce costs and reinvest in grassroots development. As part of a growing network of community batteries, the project highlights how shared energy infrastructure can open up the energy transition to more people, while building a more local, resilient system.
